The study assesses the nutritional status of college-going hostel boarders in Durgapur, West Bengal, India focusing on dietary habits, lifestyle patterns, and their impact on overall health. The research was conducted through a structured survey, gathering data on meal consumption, food preferences, and nutrient intake. The findings indicate that while some students maintain balanced diets, a significant portion exhibit nutritional deficiencies due to irregular eating habits, reliance on processed foods, and inadequate intake of essential nutrients. The study highlights the prevalence of undernutrition and micronutrient imbalances, which could potentially impact students' academic performance and overall well-being.

Millions of people have died from zoonotic illnesses, like COVID-19 and Nipah virus infection (NiV), throughout history. Fruit bats (Pteropus sp.) are the main reservoir host for NiV, an RNA virus belonging to the Henipavirus group. NiV outbreaks have posed significant public health concerns, especially in South and Southeast Asia. This study has reviewed the epidemiology, pathophysiology, genetic diversity, and phylogenetics of NiV. Phylogenetic analysis has identified two circulating NiV lineages. The investigation into plant-derived compounds has offered a novel direction for NiV treatment.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global public health crisis driven by the overuse and misuse of antibiotics, inadequate infection control practices, and the evolution of microbes. It compromises the effective treatment of infections, posing severe implications for morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Pathogens such as ESBL-producing Escherichia coli and MRSA exemplify the growing threat of drug-resistant organisms. This review provides an in-depth analysis of the mechanisms underlying AMR, including enzymatic drug inactivation, efflux pump overexpression, target site modification, and biofilm formation.

In the twenty-first century, cognitive impairment is a significant health problem. Phytochemicals derived from medicinal plants are essential for preserving the chemical balance of the central nervous system. Many herbs have been used in conventional medicine to treat cognitive problems. Studies suggest that flavonoids possess significant anti-inflammatory properties in the brain, making them a promising therapeutic option for conditions such as ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, as well as chronic neuroinflammatory disorders like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. This review highlights how phytochemicals contribute to the protection against brain disorders and explores the underlying mechanisms involved in their action.

About 9% of HIV infected peoples have neurological issues. HIV is a major global health concern, and for people who are infected, neurological symptoms is a major source of concern. HIV-positive individuals still have a high risk of neurological issues even with the widespread availability and efficacy of antiretroviral drugs. The neurocognitive deterioration and HIV-associated dementia are often correlated with HIV infection. The article delves in neurological problems that arise from HIV infection and the ways by which HIV either directly or indirectly affects the central nervous system.

Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is the most common acute leukaemia in adults, with around 20,000 annual diagnoses in developing countries. Its pathogenesis involves genetic mutations, such as NPM1, CEBPA, and FLT3-ITD, alongside chromosomal translocations that lead to the proliferation of poorly differentiated myeloid cells. Standard treatments include chemotherapy regimens, such as anthracycline and cytarabine, and allogeneic stem cell transplantation. Recent research highlights the significance of mutations in signal transduction pathways and transcription factors in myeloid differentiation.

Diabetes-related ulcers and slow-healing wounds pose a significant health risk to individuals. The use of bioactive phytochemicals can play a key role in healing wounds in a predictable time. Recent literature has demonstrated that various natural substances, including flavonoids, saponins, phenolic compounds, and polysaccharides, play key roles at different stages of the wound-healing process. Macrophages are closely involved in immunomodulation within the wound microenvironment and are key players in efferocytosis, inflammation resolution, and tissue regeneration.

Mitochondria play a crucial role in cellular metabolism, energy production, and apoptosis, and are increasingly implicated in cancer biology and therapeutic response. Beyond their role in energy generation, mitochondrial function influences tumor progression, immune escape, and resistance to cancer therapies, particularly immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment. A key feature of cancer metabolism is the Warburg effect, characterized by a shift from oxidative phosphorylation to glycolysis even in the presence of oxygen. Targeting mitochondrial pathways represents promising strategies to overcome immunotherapy resistance and improve cancer treatment outcomes.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are key regulators of metabolic disease pathophysiology, arising from both enzymatic and nonenzymatic sources. Excessive generation of ROS under diseases such as obesity, diabetes mellitus, and metabolic syndrome deranges the redox balance and triggers cellular dysfunction. Enzymatically, ROS generation largely involves the function of NADPH oxidases, xanthine oxidase, and mitochondrial electron transport chain components. These systems become overactive during conditions of hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia, increasing oxidative stress.
